West Ryde Boilerhouse
The boilerhouse and accompanying viaduct (or coal staithe) are part of the
largest steam powered pumping stations in the southern hemisphere.
This National Trust listed building had been allowed to deteriorate since its completion in 1921 and was the subject of a complete restoration.
Gartner Rose has cleaned and repaired the render and concrete, removed and repaired the steel framed windows, repaired the brickwork, relaid the railway lines and restored the building to its former condition.
This work has been performed in consultation with the Sydney Water Heritage advisor.
Gartner Rose have recently won a "Highly Commended" award at the National Trust Heritage Awards for 2008 for work done on this project.
Based on the success of the restoration to date a separate phase of work was completed, and following that Gartner Rose were appointed to a new project for Sydney Water, at Homebush.
