Central Station Lift Replacement Project Completion

We are delighted to advise the safe and successful competition of the lift replacement project at Central Station for Sydney Trains.

During nine weeks of construction, including over 20-night shifts, 2,570 hours were worked to complete the lift replacement which connects platforms 24 and 25 to the concourse. All works were completed within the original programme including additional works which were incorporated with no delay to the project.

The project scope included the dismantle and removal of the existing lift, installation of the new lift with modification works to the existing lift shaft to comply and accommodate the replacement. Further works included the supply and installation of the mechanical ventilation system for the upgraded lift shaft and the upgrade of associated electricals including CCTV. The lift was also future proofed to allow for the planned floor level rise by Sydney Metro in the near future.

The works were undertaken within an underground environment, protected by smoke detectors and sprinklers which required special precautions to avoid any disruption to Central Station.

While Central Station is one of the busiest railway stations in Sydney, removals and deliveries also took place at night with careful planning to minimise the disruption to everyday commuters.

The works compliment our recent project completion at Strathfield Station and other previous lift replacements at railway stations within the Sydney region.

Congratulations to everyone for bringing this project to a safe completion and a special thank you to the project team, subcontractors and suppliers.
