Project Award for Fort Street Public School
We are delighted to advise that Gartner Rose has been appointed by Lendlease to undertake the investigation works required at Fort Street Public School.
Fort Street Public School, known to locals as the “school on the hill”, was established in 1849 in Millers Point. Its heritage significance is still evident today as the first Government model school in the colony of NSW, making the school one of the oldest public schools in Australia.
The project will see Gartner Rose undertake investigation works to the unoccupied MET building within the school due to its desperate need of repair. The Bureau of Meteorology (MET) building is significant as one of the first purpose-built buildings for Meteorology in 1922. The building is associated with the Bureau of Meteorology, an Executive Agency of the Australian Government responsible for providing weather services to Australia and surrounding area. The building’s primary location beside and above the City of Sydney, made it a suitable site for meteorological observations.
Gartner Rose will assess the current conditions of the structure internally, externally and the roof, to determine the required scope in order to have the school building made usable again. Investigations will be undertaken to assess the extent of hazardous materials on site to accurately price remediation works.
Gartner Rose will produce a Dilapidation Report of current conditions to aid consultants for further design and scope for the next stage of works. A detailed temporary works design will also be created for implementation of the next stage in order to carry out the hazardous materials removal for the following stage of works.
We look forward to a safe and successful project.
