Award Win at the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) National Architecture Awards

We are thrilled to announce that the restoration and refurbishment works completed at Parliament House NSW have been announced as the winner of the Lachlan Macquarie Award for Heritage Architecture at the 2025 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) National Architecture Awards.

The awards saw a total of 46 distinguished projects earning an award or commendation from a pool of 77 shortlisted entries. Jury chair Jane Cassidy commented that “… the projects encountered this year are more than structures: they are systems of care, of connection, of transformation. This year we have seen a body of work that is unafraid to ask difficult questions – about equity, climate and care… They remind us that architecture is not just about what we build, but how we build, and for whom”.

The jury cited that “… the Parliamentary Chambers were meticulously restored and upgraded using bespoke materials and traditional craftsmanship, preserving their historic character… This exemplary project offers a compelling model for future heritage work – an inspiring fusion of past and present within one of Sydney’s most important architectural landmarks”.

Winners Revealed: 2025 National Architecture Awards

We would once again like to congratulate Purcell Architects and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer on this momentous win and thank the NSW Parliament Capital Works Team, Gartner Rose project team, subcontractors and consultants, for the safe and successful completion of both of these incredible projects. This award is testament to the collaborative efforts between all parties to successfully complete the complex conservation and restoration works undertaken on this iconic heritage landmark.
