Waterfall Station Upgrade Project Completion
We are delighted to advise the safe and successful completion of the Waterfall Station Easy Access Upgrade Project for Transport for NSW, with the project completed four months ahead of schedule.
Major challenges included the construction of the platform extension and lift pit around live signalling cables and the temporary works coordination for the crane positioning to install the lift and pre-cast elements whilst not overloading the bridge and maintaining safe approach distances to the overhead wiring, all whilst allowing 1 lane to remain open for buses and emergency vehicles.
There were a total of 6 track possessions utilised to complete contract works.
The scope of work for this design and construct project included:
- New station entry with level access at overbridge level
- New lift from station entry to platform level
- Platform extension to form lift waiting area at platform level
- New canopies to station entry and platform
- New accessible toilets (replacing existing in platform building)
- Platform upgrading to achieve level access
- External works including modifications to footpaths
- Additional Lighting
- Additional CCTV coverage, containment and cabling
- Installation of the W19 Co-acting signal
- Wayfinding signage
- Kiss and ride zones
- Cycle shelter/ storage facilities
- Station Passenger Information (SPI)
- Hearing Induction Loop in critical areas
Numerous innovations were seen throughout the course of the project with the platform coping and prefabricated lift, including:
- Precast coping panels delivered to site ahead of the possession to allow tiling prior to installation
- Cladding and window frame installation to lift shaft prior to install
- Utilising dual incoming supply to ensure smooth transition from existing incoming power supply to new incoming supply
- Pre-cast column construction and install methodology to allow bolted connection using a Ø1200mm base plate at the time of install in-lieu of propping and grouting to allow for install of headstock to proceed
- Utilisation of FC sheeting as temporary platform surface prior to asphalt placement
