Central Station Lift Replacement
During nine weeks of construction, including over 20-night shifts, 2,570 hours were worked to complete the lift replacement which connects platforms 24 and 25 to the concourse. All works were completed within the original nine week programme, including additional works, which were incorporated with no delay to the project.
The project scope included dismantling and removing the existing lift and installing a new lift, with modification works to the existing lift shaft to comply and accommodate the replacement. Further works included the supply and installation of the mechanical ventilation system for the upgraded lift shaft and the upgrade of associated electricals including CCTV. The lift was also future proofed to allow for the planned floor level rise by Sydney Metro.
The works were undertaken within an underground environment, protected by smoke detectors and sprinklers which required special precautions to avoid any disruption to Central Station. Central Station is one of the busiest railway stations in Sydney and removals and deliveries took place at night to minimise the disruption to everyday commuters.
