Project Award for St John’s College
We are delighted to advise that Gartner Rose has been appointed by St John’s College at the University of Sydney to undertake refurbishment works in the beautiful 1868 heritage listed college.
St John’s College is perhaps the grandest Gothic Revival College in Australia, designed by one of England’s (and Australia’s) foremost ecclesiastical architects of the mid-nineteenth century, William Wardell. The works were completed by one of Australia’s best known Colonial architects, Edmund T. Blacket.
Built entirely in sandstone, the college is fourteenth century English Gothic in style and substantially Renaissance Baroque in plan. St John’s College was the first Catholic University College in the British Empire, and has produced many notable former students throughout its history.
Gartner Rose’s scope of works includes the upgrade, within exacting heritage standards, of the ablution facilities and kitchenettes throughout the residential college. All works will be undertaken in a live environment, with careful planning to minimise the impact on the students living in the College.
We look forward to a safe and successful project.
